The guava is widespread in tropical Africa. The fruit is also cultivated in the West Indies, Brazil and Peru, where it is used to make a jam similar to pear jelly.
Guavas are usually grown for their sweet berries. There are many varieties with few or many seeds, white, pink or red flesh and green skin that turns yellow when ripe.
