Bissap is a refreshing juice obtained from the African hibiscus flower “Hibiscus sabdariffa”, with a slightly sour taste and a sweet aroma of red fruits.
Popular in West Africa (Senegal, Mali and Ivory Coast) as well as in Egypt (Karkade). It is rich in vitamin C and is said to have diuretic and tonic properties. Introduced to Europe at the end of the century, bissap is often used to make herbal teas.
